In this class, you will learn techniques and ways to alter books,
plus create an... inspiring artist journal to fill with words and images after the
workshop is over. Class instruction and format will suit beginners and advanced
artists who want to explore sophisticated approaches to altered books: text
manipulation, wire wraps, stitching, glazes, plaster, wax, stencils, image
transfers, folds, pockets, pullouts, 3D embellishment, collage, niches, and
more! The workshop includes a slide show of the work of leading book artists,
printed handouts, and most of the materials. Students should bring their own
craft knife, small self-healing cutting mat, scissors, pencil, flat artist
paint brush (medium size), 12-14 inch ruler with metal edge, and a bag
Instructor Bio: Marianne Lettieri is a mixed
media artist who works at Cubberley Artist Studios in Palo Alto. Recent
exhibitions include “By Mainly Unexpected Means” at Meridian Gallery in San
Francisco, “Poetics of Disposability” at Triton Museum of Art, and “Changing
Context” at Azusa Pacific University. Her artwork is in the collections of
Oracle Corporation, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, and International
Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction. She has an MFA in Spatial Arts
from San Jose State University and a BFA in Drawing and Printmaking from
University of Florida.
